Established in 1974 as a National Recreation Area, and redesignated as a National Park in 2000, this 32,000+ acre park protects the rich forests and waterways of the Cuyahoga Valley, but unlike most other National Parks, it also encompasses 4 small towns, 2 ski resorts, and a large network of roads that can take you through the multiple regions of the park.

What Cuyahoga Valley National Park lacks in towering mountains, vibrant coastlines, or dramatic rock formations, it more than makes up for in its beautiful dense forests interspersed with the perfectly preserved history and culture of the region. This small, but mighty Park sees over 2.9 million visitors annually, which is about the same as Bryce Canyon and Glacier National Parks, and more than Death Valley and Arches National Park!

The diversity of Cuyahoga Valley National Park can best be explored by taking a ride on the unique Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad, which runs throughout the length of the park and alongside the “Crooked River” itself! For those looking to explore the park by foot or bike, the 20 mile long Ohio and Erie Canal Towpath provides an excellent opportunity to see everything this fantastic park has to offer. The historical Towpath Trail follows the original route of the Ohio and Erie Canal through the park. Bike rentals are available at multiple locations within the park, as well!
